Now we're getting somewhere.

  • When you see a coworker who's notorious for slacking off when there's piles of work to be done get ripped apart by an ex-marine over-the-top type for slacking, how do you do anything but smile about it?
  • People on the Internet are experts at everything. Especially the ones who've never actually left their computer chair.
  • People in real life are much the same. The ones that actually have experience, for the most part, don't talk about it.
  • I can count on one hand the number of major projects I've finished that have actually been put to use afterwards. However, I've lost count of the number of huge projects I've completed and have been used for testing and then forgotten about.
  • Anybody know any movies out, or that will be out on Friday, that are worth seeing? Nothing looks good to me save maybe that new horror movie, what's it called? Quarantine. And even that, meh.
  • Hmm. I could almost get behind this (no Bigsby for me thanks), if I had any idea on quality. Investigation commencing.
  • Hey, dude, when I told you what was going down, you had no interest in it. Now that it's going down, you're in a blind panic. Who's problem is that? Oh, that's right, not mine because I gave you every message involved, told you every detail of what was happening, and made sure your boss knew the same. So, sorry if you couldn't bother paying attention. I did my part. Now we're just stuck waiting for them to follow through. And there ain't shit you, or I, can do about it. Too bad you couldn't do your job and make sure your updates went through before the lockout, but, you know, it'd be a shame if all that whining you do to your boss about this came back to bite you in the ass when he sees you were CC'd every single email I sent him about it. HA HA!
  • Sucks to be sales newb today. But, you know, if you didn't have the WORST ringtone of all time, set on the highest volume the phone has, and leave your phone on your desk while visiting your mentor for three hours at a time during the day, you may not find your phone shoved in a desk drawer between two service manuals, your keys sitting on top of your desk in plain view, and your door closed and locked when you came back. Just sayin'.
  • Mmmm. Salmon.
  • Wait, no, spaghetti. Mmm. Spaghetti.
  • Mmmm. Salmon spaghetti. Hmm. That doesn't sound right.
  • Gotta go.

Guitar licks by wiredog (2.00 / 0) #1 Tue Oct 07, 2008 at 03:06:03 PM EST
Just heard Dirty City by Steve Winwood. Clapton does the guitar work. He is the Guitar God.

Huge projects put to use? I wrote the softgware used in the plating line described here back in 96. As recently as summer 2006 it was still in use.

Clapton is good. by nightflameblue (2.00 / 0) #2 Tue Oct 07, 2008 at 03:40:00 PM EST
Though he has his down moments. I've seen some live videos where he seems to be asleep as he plays.

And hey, let's not be talking about projects that actually GET used here.

But I do work for people who look to the government to teach them how to remain flexible and nimble in the business world!

And I've been credited on 3 original titles, and 2 ports (conversions).  I've worked on 3 published titles where my work was not credited, and 2 major projects that were not completed, and I've worked on at least 3 pre-production demos that were not continued into production.  I've worked for 5 different studios, 4 of which are now closed down.

And life goes on.

Down moments like when he neglected to by MohammedNiyalSayeed (4.00 / 1) #7 Tue Oct 07, 2008 at 04:14:17 PM EST

close his window, then made a fortune writing a song about his now-dead son?

Personally, I can't stand the dude, mainly because he made a career of making blues palatable to white people, which is wrong on like three different levels.

Ah, blues elitism. by nightflameblue (2.00 / 0) #8 Tue Oct 07, 2008 at 04:49:38 PM EST
A subject where there's so many levels to the wrongness that any blues 'elitist' pointing out how blues shouldn't be liked by any other group just sort of leaves a general vibe of icky all over everything it touches.

Without the blues there's no rock. Without rock there's no metal. Without metal there's a very pissed off teenage me with a guitar and no idea what to do with it. So, bleh.

I am no Blues Elitist. by MohammedNiyalSayeed (2.00 / 0) #9 Tue Oct 07, 2008 at 05:41:15 PM EST

Quite simply, I hate the blues. I also hate most rock, and most metal. There are exceptions, to be sure, but for the most part, nothing but hate.

For the record, I'm not saying one form of blues is better than another, as, to me, they all suck; just that, chronologically, blacks invented the blues, then Elvis, the Beatles, and Clapton did pale imitations of their black predecessors, which was hungrily lapped up by a caucazoidal audience who suddenly found "the blues" more palatable.

Ah, different. by nightflameblue (2.00 / 0) #10 Tue Oct 07, 2008 at 05:44:29 PM EST
I've run into numerous folks who, though white themselves, seem to believe there's something HORRIBLY WRONG with any white person liking the blues at all, on any level. No matter who they say they like. Whatever subgenre, era, whatever.

I should have known your hate was more general.

For what it's worth, Clapton is someone I can admit knows how to play, but he doesn't rank real high on my personal list. I'd much rather listen to B.B. King and Lucille. But I'd also much rather listen to 80s era Metallica than either of them.

Yeah, not yet. by nightflameblue (2.00 / 0) #12 Tue Oct 07, 2008 at 09:29:12 PM EST
And I'm really torn on seeing that one. Kevin Smith + Seth Rogan = x

Kevin Smith = (Clerks + Clerks II + Mallrats + Chasing Amy + Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back + Dogma) - (Douchbaggery + Night With + Being Kevin Smith + Ridiculous number of appearances)

Seth Rogan = (Freaks and Geeks + Being Seth Rogan) - (The entire rest of his body of work.)

I just can't figure out if it's worth seeing in the theater, or more of a "watch it via Netflix after the hype's died down."

Overhype. by nightflameblue (2.00 / 0) #17 Wed Oct 08, 2008 at 07:59:10 AM EST
And while it's sort of fun as a casual watch, it's not the type of thing that needs to be repeated over and over again and re-re-re-re-released on DVD for people to gobble up.

I'm not sure Jason Mewes can overcome Seth Rogan. Especially as Jason is a side character and Seth is a lead.

Smoked salmon strips, some cream, black pepper and either parmesan or some soft blue cheese. Declare victory.
