This will run until January 20th, 2008. To enter you must choose a goal to reach by that date and then chart your progress either on a spreadsheet or in before/after pics.

Anything health improvement related is eligible.

Like what? Like losing weight, like reducing body fat. Or it may be activity related, for instance walking seven miles a week. Or it may be consumption related, such as reducing cigarette, alcohol, soda or junk food, etc.

Which would let me make "parties, clubs and raves attended" a metric.

I'll consider starting after I finish this sixpack of beer and my bottle of bourbon. Can't let them stand around for a month and a half, after all.

double my cigarette intake, increase my daily caffeine intake, and up my girl-related stress levels to a degree that I lose another 20 some pounds by January 20th. Or 10. Let's be reasonable here.

Seriously folks, if it's health related, it isn't "fun".

Because I've got roughly between now and then by lm (4.00 / 1) #12 Mon Dec 03, 2007 at 08:42:41 AM EST
This week is finals week for me. The new academic session starts the first week of January. Consequently it is only between now and then that I have my lunch breaks free to go running instead of learning Latin.

But of course, I'm probably not exactly representative of the HuSi demographic.

Only because I would definitely be having a poops fun challenge for my health part, and goshdarnit, I don't have a cameraphone at the moment, and what are poops when described by words? Nothing.

Also, Nokia smartphone users can use Wellness Diary or Sports Diary apps, available from Nokia's beta site. Makes it easy to keep track.

Anyone else notice how cam got off to a running start and then invited everyone to catch up. I bet he blows goats, too.

But here's my twin goals anyway. Being able to run 5  miles. Losing 10 pounds. Progress to be charted weekly.

this is difficult by StackyMcRacky (2.00 / 0) #15 Mon Dec 03, 2007 at 09:36:14 AM EST
as i'm not sure what my long-term health goals are.  1 year is a loooong time.

i know i want to get down to 160 lbs, be more flexible (namely, get back to the level i was pre-pregnancy), up my strength.  hrm, mostly all of this is get me back to where i was pre-pregnancy (or better, in the weight area).

also, we're working on our lower-meat, higher veggie diet.  a big part of that is switching to a minimum 65% locally-purchased foodstuffs.

i'll see what metrics i can put together (weight will be easy).

My goals for 20 Jan 2008 (7 weeks from today):

Swim 45K. (6.5K/week)
Run 175 miles (25mpw)
Bike 600 miles (85mpw, being on the trainer sucks any more than that).

And to get my weight to 169-170, right now I'm 171.x, so a pound to 1.5 pounds.

What I want to do is this.

With my knee pain (and physio), though, I think I need to focus on upper body activities and following through with the physio's instructions.

So. Goals. Work up to 50 ab crunches 3 times a week. Work up to 20 push-ups 3 times a week. Do quad exercises assigned by the physio every day. That should be quantifiable, I think.

I resolve to stop stalking my ex online. The last time I googled him, he was on "imadirtygirl.com."

I resolve to go to my Bikram yoga classes more often.

I resolve to deal with my emotional heartbreak head on without fizzling it out by trying to hide behind humor, wine, or ice cream for the next month.

I do not how I would quantify this other than to write,

"I can do a Russian split again!"

and/or

"I am over that impotent asshole!"

Either of which is unlikely. But I look forward to a month of increasing physical flexibility, and purging of emotional toxic waste.

Well, coincidentally . . . by slozo (2.00 / 0) #39 Wed Dec 05, 2007 at 09:46:32 AM EST
. . . I was already on my own personal mission to drop 20 pounds of married weight (started about a month ago) before Crismus. Started at 260 pounds, this morning was at 249. I have hit a bit of a wall the last week though, and will clearly have to do a tad bit more in terms of exercise (hasn't been much due to schedule). Have to start playing v-ball again . . .

At 240, I would feel very good, look ok. If I ever started a program like you are on and got down to 225, I'd be ripped - but I'm comfy with feeling good first, baby steps.

#GROAN# My goal was to by greyrat (2.00 / 0) #41 Mon Dec 10, 2007 at 01:29:34 PM EST
spend the entire last week of January with a blood alcohol level of approximately 0.06 and never below 0.03. But since that's outside your time frame, I guess I'll have to come up with something else.
