Considering the question of narrating a story from the point of view of an inanimate object, I was rather left without clue. I started writing something told from the POV of a brooch which had once belonged to someone in Genghis Kahn's army. It went nowhere, and at last report was still entombed somewhere in Mongolia.

So there's this idea that men don't actually see the women the ogle. It has some traction, I think, judging from my own experience. They're treated as screens onto which the party of the first part (the ogler) projects fantasies of his own fascination onto the party of the second part (the oglee). Thereby, arguably, depriving $her of personhood, at least in $his eyes. It is to thing.

Once this idea got into my head, it wouldn't leave, so I wrote it up over about 3 weeks of Sunday prompted writing chats (Sunday at 1pm eastern USian time, on IRC server slashnet.org, channel #writing; y'all come, 'll be fun). I stitched together what I had, did some minimal taping of joints, painted it, and posted it.

While cheating and breaking of rules is generally encouraged, perhaps this [a] bent the rules a little too far, and [b] wasn't well enough written, to do better than tie for last place. At least one of the two votes was, I suspect, from someone who just voted for everything.

I myself voted for For Now We See and the 411, though, as 2 plus 3 equals 5 remarked, the exchange between CRwM and blixco was perhaps the best part of this particular event.

Well, except that the most fun this particular writer had in the whole thing was a collaborative effort which will be fessed up to anon. (Up to which will be fessed? To which will be fessed up?)

Oh, and just as a point of order, if organizers of these things would use the "tags" feature, labelling their stories "WFC" or "MFC" or whatever, it makes it much easier to figure out, months later, who won that last MFC (/me glares at 606) or CFC (/me glares at 256).
